Few years back i read this article : " New Milestone Emerges : Baby's First iPhone App", and it still lingers in my mind. This article was about a study concerning the use of electronics by small children.
As adults(we) turn increasingly occupied with their "Gadgets" (tablets, ipads, iphones, kindles..etc), our children - even the smallest ones are doing equally well . The apps have been developed for all age groups - Zero to Eight all have their own games and apps. Ipads and Tablets are the Game changers because of their easy to use property.
Though many parents express pride and amazement that their young children are so tech-savvy, she said, what has really happened is that technology has gotten much easier to use. " My daughter (five months) knows which finger to use while handling a phone", says one of my friends
Sometimes we as parents willingly give our kids these opportunities to use the tabs and ipads, coz we need our independent time. “I know if I need Vihaan to be quiet for an hour, I can hand him the iPad and I won’t hear from him,” said Dr. Neelima, a physician with two sons, Vihaan, 5, and Raj, 1,
Yesterday only , my younger one had to visit an eye doctor for an eye infection .First question the doctor asked me was - " So what would be her SCREEN TIME ?". I mean...it is an authentic question these days - Screen Time !! According to them any kid watching T. V or any gadget for more than 1 hour is directly asking for eye glasses. Wow!!!!!!!!, that was an eye opener to me .
Relax Parents ! An easy solution to this is that we as role models for our children should cut down on our Screen times , so that we have more quality time left to spend with them - our real valuable kids. After all, all children model parents’ behavior .
And yes- Maybe FAMILY rules for use of electronics is the answer.
P.S : I tried this Brain Quest decks, it really helped in spending good time with my kids. You can try them as well...
Any more suggestion to reduce Kids screen time are most welcome. :)
Seriously..i mean 1 hour is nothing...kids would be watching T.V for more than that . We need to regulate it now.
